Into Nature Jr. Exhibition

What is Plein Air?

En Plein Air is French for “in open air.” Plein air artists work outdoors, capturing a particular place and time. In other words, it's creating art outside and having fun.

Call for Entries

The Into Nature Jr. Plein Air Exhibition is open to artists ages 6 to 16. All levels and abilities are encouraged to register online or by paper form starting Monday, June 10, 2024.

Registration

The registration form must be submitted online or in person by Wednesday, July 31, 2024. There is no registration fee. Artists can submit up to three works of art.

Into Nature Jr. Plein Air Participation Dates:
Monday, June 10, 2024 to Wednesday, July 31, 2024
Young artists are encouraged to paint or draw outside. It can be in the backyard, a local park, or even on the campus of White Bear Center for the Arts.

Additional location ideas around White Bear Lake and surrounding areas are*:
-The Gazebo at Matoska Park
-Lion’s Park
-Sucker Lake/Snail Lake
-Tamarack Nature Center

*With parental consent.

Drop off work:
Monday, July 29-Wednesday, July 31, 2024 during business hours. (No late exceptions please).

Into Nature Jr. Plein Air Exhibition
All work submitted will be displayed in the Community Hall and Studio on Friday, August 2 to September 27, 2024.

Into Nature Jr. Community Reception:
Friday, August 2 at 12:00-1:00 PM in the Community Studio. Join us for light refreshments. All are welcome!

Artwork Pick Up
Saturday, September 28, 10:30 AM-2:30 PM
Monday, September 30, 10:30 AM-7:30 PM

Eligibility:

  • Artists must be between the ages of 6 and 16. All levels and abilities are welcome.
  • Paintings and drawings (oil, acrylic, pastel, colored pencil, watercolor or any 2-D medium) must originate from a plein air experience during the contest dates noted above.
  • Work may be done on paper or canvas.
    Maximum artwork size should not exceed 24" x 36."
  • Submitted pieces do not need to be framed.
  • Artists 17 and older are encouraged to enter the Into Nature Plein Air Competition for adults.

Waiver:

WBCA reserves the right to refuse any artwork for any reason. Reasonable care will be taken in handling and displaying artwork, but no responsibility is assumed by White Bear Center for the Arts (WBCA) for loss or damage of any kind. Submission of work indicates acceptance of these conditions and agreement that digital or photographic images may be used for publicity purposes by WBCA, including on social media and the WBCA website.
