Alex Chinn
Alex Chinn grew up in rural western Massachusetts in an old farmhouse with his painter mother. He was exposed to many forms of art, including clay, from early childhood. Clay became his primary artistic outlet while studying with Ron Gallas at Macalester College. In 1998 Alex formed Ceramic Chinn and has since maintained an active studio at The Northern Clay Center. Alex makes sculptures, tiles, and functional pottery. The work is considerate of its intended use with an eye to volume, contrast, and an element of spontaneity. Nature is often a source of inspiration as are the daily needs around the house and garden. Alex also creates work at this home studio and lives with his family in St. Paul.
“This class was great. Alex is very knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions I had. The class atmosphere was laid back and allowed me to choose what I wanted to work on.” –Friday Morning with Alex Chinn
“I loved the class. I got to experiment and push my limits. I want to do more work with paper clay!” –Paper Clay Workshop
