In this novel, acclaimed Indigenous author Debra Magpie Earling reimagines the life of one of the most memorialized women in American history, Sacajawea, who served as interpreter and guide for Lewis and Clark’s Corps of Discovery. Read the tale of a young Sacajewea who is torn from her village, forced into captivity, and later gambled away to a French trapper. Earling unearths Sacajewea’s untold story, shedding light on her struggle for survival in a brutal, colonizing world. This novel challenges historical narratives, giving Sacajewea the voice and agency to reclaim her own history.
