This course will be an open discussion and critique of photographic skills and technology. Join Robert and David, along with an invited professional photographer, for a session of critique and review of their compositions. Time permitting, there will be an opportunity to do a photo walkabout at the art center and a critique of those images. Be prepared to complete assignments for following sessions. You are encouraged to bring a selection of up to 3 images (digital or prints), which will be reviewed by the instructors and class members in an open critique. Melding with Welding

In this 4 hour course you will learn about the history of welding and weld a sculpture. TIG Welding melts metal to metal. No sticks, rods or wire. You will learn to use power-tools. Tap into your creativity and take home a sculpture. Safety first, do not wear shorts, dresses or open toed shoes. Do wear jeans, a long sleeved cotton shirt, closed toed leather shoes or boots. Bring leather work gloves and a stone about the size of your fist.

Cut’n’Fold: The Art of Kirigami and Paper Sculpture

From Japanese culture this class will explore the technique called Kirigami. You will learn to turn a simple piece of paper into a beautiful pop-up card or into a 3D sculpture by cutting, folding, drawing, painting, and more. You will also explore how light and projection interacts with your 3D object and give it texture and new life. Outcomes can be: 3D paper sculptures, pop-up cards and booklets, paper architecture, small sets, prototypes for furniture.

Watercolor Frogs

Watercolor Koi and Water Lilies

For new and returning students, this class will add to the art experience by teaching how to control the paint, making the koi’s colors appear very natural. There are many different colors of koi and students will use beautiful photographs to choose the shapes and colors. Composition is emphasized so that the objects are placed and sized to make an interesting painting. Participants will use movement and rhythm to help lead the viewer’s eye through the painting. Techniques will include texturing the lily pads, masking to save whites, and making bubbles. Everything will be demonstrated step-by-step and students will be amazed by what they’ve created.

It’s finally summer, and the poppies and peonies are blooming! Learn to paint both of them in the sumi-e way, using ink watercolor, rice paper and bamboo brushes. In this class you will learn and refine your skills in a non-intimidating and fun environment. You’ll also receive lots of encouragement as you develop your own personal approach. Class includes demonstration plus open painting time. Beginners through advanced artists welcome — watercolorists and other painters will also find this useful.
