In my painting practice, I've found a shift towards a more balanced and restorative approach. As a teacher, I spent a lot of time teaching and painting through a screen, leaving me feeling disconnected. After hours, I painted from reference images on a screen, which led me to crave a deeper connection with the natural world.
Being an avid walker, I've always felt a profound connection with the elements of nature: the wind, light, trees, water, and landscapes. I found that painting from direct observation and engaging in a dialogue with the world around me became crucial as an artist.
I've learned to embrace imperfections in my representation of the world, moving away from a more mechanical, camera-like approach. Now, my painting practice feels more balanced and fulfilling. When I return home after painting, I have a tangible record of my experiences in nature, which I can share with others.
