Second Sources
Genie Hien Tran
In the Exhibition Hall
Show Dates: April 24-June 16, 2023
Time shifts memories into ambiguity and into new memories. Each time we remember the past, it has become a new past: slightly altered, blurred or more exaggerated and specific. Can we trust our memory and its story? Is remembering merely projection of our current self, desiring to connect to our past? Second Sources explores this idea through repetition. This exhibition consists of a series of collages, sculptures and textiles drawn from Genie Tran’s studio objects, family photos and Vietnamese cultural archives.
Genie Hien Tran (Trân Phan Minh Hiên) is a visual artist from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and currently based in Minneapolis, MN. Her artistic practice often takes the form of collage, design, poetry and installation in order to explore the complexity of home, belonging and identity.
