Alex Chinn

Alex Chinn grew up in rural western Massachusetts in an old farmhouse with his painter mother.  He was exposed to many forms of art, including clay, from early childhood.  Clay became his primary artistic outlet while studying with Ron Gallas at Macalester College. In 1998, Alex formed Ceramic Chinn and has since maintained an active studio at The Northern Clay Center. Alex makes sculptures, tiles, and functional pottery. The work is considerate of its intended use with an eye to volume, contrast, and an element of spontaneity. Nature is often a source of inspiration, as are the daily needs around the house and garden. Alex also creates work at this home studio and lives with his family in St. Paul.
