The Sami people are the indigenous people of Sweden, Norway, Finland, and the Kola Peninsula of Russia. They have a long history and tradition of reindeer breeding. Wanting to use all parts of the reindeer, the Sami would make beautiful jewelry out of the ringer leather. This class is similar to the beginning bracelet class but for an added twist we are going to incorporate silk thread into the design. Students will start by braiding pewter thread (nickel free alloy with 4% silver) with braided silk thread. After sewing to the reindeer leather, the back of the bracelet is stitched closed using sinew thread and a button close made from shed reindeer antler. All tools are provided but students who need magnification should bring their own. This class requires hand sewing.
