Into Nature: Plein Air Competition & Exhibition
Location: Exhibition Hall
Show Dates: July 5-August 25, 2022
The Into Nature Plein Air Competition began in the spring of 2020 as a way to connect artists with the joy of the outdoors during an isolating time. The tradition continued online in the spring of 2021. This year, artists from across the region gathered in and around White Bear Lake to paint local scenes “en plein air” (French for outdoors), immersing themselves in nature and the joy of creating art. “Working en plein air is a way to slow down and engage with the world that surrounds us,” WBCA Executive Director Suzi Hudson said. “I hope you experience the beauty of nature through the lens of these artists.”
The artwork you see here is selected work from the Into Nature Plein Air Competition, chosen by visiting artist and judge Spencer Meagher. Spencer’s work has taken top awards in art competitions around the country, and has been exhibited in many notable galleries. His paintings have been featured in publications such as Southwest Art, Plein Air Magazine and Plein Air Today.
