Instructor: Dan Mondloch

In our normal weekly class we rarely get the time to fully embrace the entire process of a painting, from techniques to design considerations, value studies to quadrant warm up exercises, and then painting the picture in stages – it’s a bit much to get it all done in a 3 hour session. This 2 day class is designed to give students the time to work on and complete these activities alongside Dan, from start to finish, on a painting subject together. On both days, Dan will provide photos, drawing guide, and transfer paper, and we will all paint the same exercises and subject together as a group. (unless of course you want to do your own thing – that’s ok, Dan will help you as he is able, or you can follow along and do the activities with your own subject). In the morning we will do warm up and prep activities with an emphasis on paint consistency and texture, and in the afternoon we will paint the picture step by step together. Success may not be measured in a perfectly finished picture, but rather in small victories where one puts their focus.

There has been considerable demand for a plein air class, so if weather allows, I may do a demonstration outdoors at WBCA. If folks want to do a weekly plein air class in the summer, please express your interest and we can look into that too.
