Lecture: Translating Painting into Poetry

Since at least the time of the ancient poet Homer, writers have been trying to translate works of visual art into words. There’s even a Greek term for it: ekphrasis. In this presentation, we will pair up images of art with poetry written about them, then consider how each poem illuminates each painting or sculpture.
