Instructor: Ann Solyst

Explore the lush delicacy of chalk pastels while learning how to draw an adorable barn owl. Although sometimes overlooked, pastel is a portable, versatile medium with a dynamic, painterly quality akin to oil painting, but without the need for harsh chemicals. Whether you are familiar with the medium or have never picked up a pastel in your life, this class will provide you with helpful tools to explore your artistic side. The first half of the class is dedicated to demonstration of and experimentation with techniques that can help unlock the artist within. In the second half of class we will focus on creating a refined drawing. Those who feel confident can dive right into the drawing at one’s own pace. If you are feeling a little unsure about how to proceed, Ann will provide step by step instructions on how to approach a drawing using line, form, and color. The goal is to learn and have fun, so settle in for a relaxing and fulfilling day of art and nature.
