Cut’n’Fold: The Art of Kirigami and Paper Sculpture

From Japanese culture this class will explore the technique called Kirigami. You will learn to turn a simple piece of paper into a beautiful pop-up card or into a 3D sculpture by cutting, folding, drawing, painting, and more. You will also explore how light and projection interacts with your 3D object and give it texture and new life. Outcomes can be: 3D paper sculptures, pop-up cards and booklets, paper architecture, small sets, prototypes for furniture.

It’s finally summer, and the poppies and peonies are blooming! Learn to paint both of them in the sumi-e way, using ink watercolor, rice paper and bamboo brushes. In this class you will learn and refine your skills in a non-intimidating and fun environment. You’ll also receive lots of encouragement as you develop your own personal approach. Class includes demonstration plus open painting time. Beginners through advanced artists welcome — watercolorists and other painters will also find this useful. Felted Water Bottle Cozy

Keep your cool in yoga class, on a hike, at work; anywhere you take water or a cool beverage. No knitting or sewing, wool fibers and warm soapy water are the key ingredients in this fun class. Learn simple pattern drafting, traditional seamless wet felting and a variety of surface embellishing techniques to create your own one-of-a-kind insulating bottle cozy. $20 supply fee includes all fibers and supplies and is payable to instructor. Bring from home: Reusable water bottle with straight sides (Rubbermaid, Contigo or similar), or a water/pop bottle or can. 12 ounces – 30 ounces, no bottles with pronounced “waists”. Scissors, 2-3 old hand towels, an old bath towel, a bag lunch and plastic bag to carry home wet items.

Summer Sparklers

Come and join us for a fun filled evening creating “Sparklers” that never burn out! You will learn how to cut glass the easy way! No grinding or soldering, just glue and fishing line. Sparklers are made by gluing two small squares of mirror back-to-back on a fishing line. You will be making a string of them with your choice of colorful glass beads for some pizazz. Hang them outside or in your room. When they catch the sun and spin in the wind they throw little beams of light all over the room. Cats love them too. A supply fee of $8 will be collected by the instructor.

Let’s go on a fun Photographic Safari around town and learn to use your iPhone/iPad camera . In this class you will learn tips and tricks of using your camera, better composition, tuning an image, cropping, filters, frames, the most useful photography apps and more. We will take photos either outside or in the studio with Still Life setups, and then use the editing app, Snapseed. This is the “go to app” for most photographers and it is free. Bring your device with Snapseed downloaded on to it from the App Store. Come ready to play with your images. IOS Apple only. Sorry no Android, Galaxy etc.
