Foci Glass Blowing: Glass Flowers

Meet a group from WBCA at Foci Minnesota Center for Glass Arts, where a professional glass instructor will mentor you along in the process to create blown glass flowers. This hands-on experience is designed to provide you with an exciting introduction to working with molten glass. The thrill of shaping molten glass is unlike anything else available in the Twin Cities metro area. This is an excellent team building experience and truly a unique special event. You may bring food and drinks to enjoy, as there is some downtime while everyone takes turns making their glass. Finished projects can be picked up from Foci one week after the class. Please register at least 2 weeks in advance for this class.

How to Draw Faces

Even if you’ve never drawn a face before, this class will give you a solid approach to drawing faces. If you have, there are lots of tips and details to help you capture your subject better. This workshop emphasizes placing and drawing the features of the face accurately, including:
• How to analyze light and shadow, and create a light effect.
• How to map the features of the face.
• Common errors in portrait drawing.
Both the morning and afternoon sessions will include demos covering the principles of drawing a face and hands-on experience drawing from sculptor’s casts and a live model.

Teen Hand Sewing Leather 101

Date/Time: Monday, July 29, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

This entry level class is designed to introduce the classic techniques of hand-sewing with leather. Students can choose from projects that demonstrate the basics of working with leather including cutting, punching, hand sewing, riveting, snap setting, finishing and care. No previous experience with any type of craft or sewing is required. Students will be able to choose from a wide assortment of projects and leather at the beginning of class, including: clutches, belts, coin purses, wallets, Fieldnote covers, phone cases, keychains, sunglass cases and more. Beginning iPhone/ iPad Photographic Safari Plus Editing

Let’s go on a fun Photographic Safari around town and learn to use your iPhone/iPad camera . In this class you will learn tips and tricks of using your camera, better composition, tuning an image, cropping, filters, frames, the most useful photography apps and more. We will take photos either outside or in the studio with Still Life setups, and then use the editing app, Snapseed. This is the “go to app” for most photographers and it is free. Bring your device with Snapseed downloaded on to it from the App Store. Come ready to play with your images. IOS Apple only. Sorry no Android, Galaxy etc.

Punch needle rug hooking is a fun and easy craft to learn, and the possibilities for what you can make are endless! In this class, you’ll be learning the fundamentals of punch needle rug hooking while making your very own punch needle wall hanging. This is a perfect project to get introduced to the craft of punch needle (or refine your skills and play with a new format). You will have your choice of a wide variety of punch needle patterns to trace onto the back of the pre-stretched frame.

Explore wheel-throwing skills with this beginner/intermediate course for teens. Focus on learning to make different shapes using the wheel, or use hand-building skills like pinching, coiling, and slab building. Use your shapes to create utilitarian pottery or sculptural forms. Bring your ideas for specific forms you’d like to learn to make. Class will offer demonstrations and individualized instruction. No clay experience necessary. Materials are included. Students must attend full session to register.
