The art of quilling, or the coiling and shaping of narrow paper strips to create a design or decorative pattern, has been around for hundreds of years. Work with artist Meg Erke to learn the basic techniques of twisting, coiling, shaping, looping and designing with paper. Students will have the opportunity to make their own special quill work and create greeting cards, or ornaments with their finished quilling, along with the skills to continue creating at home. This accessible art form is perfect for gifts. You’ll be led through the basic process, then set free to create a coiled paper creation to hang in a window or add to a card. Tools, sources for supplies, and reusing paper to make your own strips will all be covered. This craft is perfect for a relaxing morning of conversation, so grab a friend and come coil away!

In this mixed media workshop, you will paint small works of art on paper that will be bound together into beautiful bundles of personal expression. Along with collected bits of your favorite poetry, drawings, your own paintings and writing, you will build layers of stories to be bound with fibers, textured and handmade papers, found materials from nature and wire. We will focus on creating wonderful textures with molding paste, collage, acrylic paint and many other mixed media techniques, as well as several methods of cold connection to assemble these art bundles into your own story.
