SAORI Weaving “Be in the Moment”

Chiaki O’Brien

SAORI is a contemporary handweaving style originating in Japan. This zen, therapeutic method of freestyle weaving without any rules or restrictions. This practice temporarily removes us from the stress of our daily lives. Just feel like you are a 5 year old not afraid of making mistakes. SAORI weaving is not merely the act of weaving a piece of cloth, it is an attempt to identify our true selves. “All flowers are beautiful, even though each individual flower is different in form and color. Because of this difference, “all are good.” It is this individuality that makes everything meaningful and the uniqueness of each thread that creates the tapestry of life.
