Introduction to Mosaic: Mosaic Window

Kim Bakken-Parr

Learn the basics of making a mosaic in this introductory class. After instruction on glass safety and glass cutting techniques, students will be given an 6” X 8” glass surface to design surrounded by a zinc channel (border). After glass pieces are cut they are glued to the sheet of glass. Since heat-activated glue is used, there is no need to wait for the glue to dry. The final step is grouting the pieces to enhance the look of the design. There will be rings attached to the border so the finished window mosaic can be hung. All tools are provided and no previous glass experience is required. All students should wear long pants and close-toed shoes. Long hair needs to be pulled back and put into a binder. All tools are provided, bring a lunch.
