Crazy Quilt Block with Beaded Imagery

Nancy Eha

Learn how to piece a crazy quilt on a muslin base using the stitch and flip sewing method. Crazy quilts were not constructed for warmth or for the bed; instead they showcased the maker’s needlework skills. The needlework skills taught in this class will be hand beading. The instructor will teach you her unique copyrighted method using small glass beads to recreate traditional thread embroidery stitches found on crazy quilts such as the feather and fly stitches. Then discover numerous fabric beading stitches to create dainty flowers, leaves, vines, raspberries, blackberries, and grapes. You will also add a beaded a spider and web, a sign of good luck on Victorian crazy quilts. Not only will you have a small bead embellished crazy quilt you will be proud of, but also the knowledge of beading stitches and techniques that you will use over and over again on future fabric based beading projects.
