Introduction to Watercolor

Sylvia Benson

Learn the basics of watercolor painting! The instructor will describe in detail the materials used for watercolor painting and explain how the water and pigment work together on the paper. You will also learn brush techniques, mixing colors, graying colors (or knocking down the intensity), methods for producing textures, value studies, and discuss what makes a high-quality composition. Students will use a viewfinder to choose an eye-catching composition that can be painted in a larger abstract version. Pick up materials in advance at WBCA. Students will need the following materials from home: salt, plastic wrap (Saran wrap), pencil, magazines, and masking tape.
