LaWayne Leno and Reid Smith
Join us for an exciting evening of piano music and an informative lecture about music history in Minnesota. After a short piano concert by award-winning students of Dr. Reid Smith, LaWayne Leno will introduce us to “an astonishing woman in an astonishing place at an astonishing time,” Adele aus der Ohe. Mr. Leno will read excerpts from his internationally acclaimed biography The Untold Story of Adele aus der Ohe: From a Liszt Student to a Virtuoso.
This lecture will highlight the amazing musical life of Adele aus der Ohe, who performed six times in Minnesota from 1888-1904, including the opening concert of the Schubert Club. Adele also frequently performed for European royalty, was a favorite of the Boston Symphony, and in 1891 performed at the opening concert of Carnegie Hall with Tchaikovsky conducting.
Alan Walker, Professor Emeritus of Music at McMaster University and prize-wining biographer wrote: “We cannot help but marvel at the shroud of neglect that obscured Adele aus der Ohe from our view, and Mr. Leno must be thanked for bringing her out of the shadows.”
This “Untold Story” will be further revealed on June 1 & 2 when Lakeshore Players presents Mr. Leno’s play at The Hanifl Performing Arts Center. Please contact Lakeshore Players directly for tickets to the play.
