Mary Jo Van Dell takes a minimalist approach to her contemporary landscape works in oil. The artist limits her palette to bring a respectful stillness and gravitas to the canvas. Mary Jo, who is based in Stillwater, Minnesota, has participated in many solo and group exhibitions in recent years. In 2013 she was awarded First Place at the Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition for her painting titled “Shipyard.” Exhibitions include the 2012 Arrowhead Biennial at the Duluth Art Institute, Chicago’s One of a Kind Show and several juried Fine Arts Exhibition at the Minnesota State Fair. She has served as artist in residence at Pouch Cove, Newfoundland, and at Isle Royale on Lake Superior. Her work is represented in the collections of the Minnesota Historical Society, the National Park Service, and was on exhibit at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum.
