Make two beautiful artworks inspired by the masterworks of Vincent van Gogh. We will do an oil and chalk pastel drawing of sunflowers and a bright, colorful painting of a starry night.

Curve Stitching
Learn the art of sewing beautiful mathematical patterns on heavy paper! We will learn to thread a needle and sew with efficiency. By matching numbers and following a geometric pattern, we will create colorful stitched designs suitable for framing. You may have time to create more than one project.

Matisse Paintings
Henri Matisse made a huge variety of art throughout his life. We will focus on his paintings which use lots of bold outlines and colorful textile patterns. We’ll play around with many different mediums while making beautiful pictures.

Pottery on the Wheel
Enjoy throwing on the pottery wheel while creating bowl forms. We will learn basic wheel techniques, then add interesting textures and surface designs to our pieces. Fired projects will be ready to pick up approximately two weeks after class.

H’Art of Photography
You will find the heart and art of photography in two very full sessions! Learn how to focus in on abstracts, people, and nature. Capture lighting with shadows, sunlight, and flash. Color, black and white, inside and outside.
Bring from home: a digital camera you are familiar with, nothing too fancy! Let the office know 1 week in advance if you need to borrow a camera. Limited to 8 students.

Still Life Painting
Using dramatic lighting and tube acrylics and painting from an easel we will explore the world of still life. In this class our still lifes are simple yet very effective in showing both shadows and highlights. We will also learn shadowing using charcoal to get us comfortable in the still life environment.

Geometric “Stained Glass” Prints
Create unique art inspired by stained glass designs of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. We will paint papers with watercolor, then draw line and shape designs on foam print plates. We’ll print with ink on the painted paper, repeating our designs in radial or reflective symmetry.

Needle-Felted Food
Create delicious-looking delicacies using wool fiber and barbed needles. The possibilities are endless. The color varieties of the wool are well-suited to creating many foods. Supplies will be provided for students to finish at home.

Aztec Sun Clay Plaque
Using earthenware clay, learn slab and coil clay techniques while making a sun plaque inspired by Mexican artisans. We will use found objects to add texture to our designs and paint them with colorful glaze. Pieces will be fired and ready for pick-up a couple weeks after the class.

Stuffed Creatures
Make your own soft-sculpture creature while learning basic sewing skills!  Students will craft a critter from their own imagination, bringing it to life with hand-stitching, stuffing, buttons, and trim. Class is limited to 8 students. Sign up early!

Tear into Art
Using watercolor paint and/or markers, you will create a selection of colored designs. You will then tear or cut these into the desired shapes and glue them to other painted paper to create collage cards or bookmarks. You may add embellishments to make a finished product.
