Pablo Picasso explored many different styles of art throughout his lifetime. From Cubism to Surrealism we will make artworks which are inspired by this unique artist. We will use a variety of art materials in the creation of our artwork.

Wire Self Portrait
Come and join us as we explore the art of Alexander Calder and his incredible mobiles! Students will create self-portraits and portraits of their family members out of wire and hang them together, making a movable work of art.

Sock Monsters
Using bright, colorful socks we will craft some cute animals or creatures to call our own. Students will use hand-stitching techniques we learn in class and use colorful buttons, trim, and felt to create and embellish their own stuffed friends. Class is limited to 8 students. Sign up early!

Pottery on the Wheel
Enjoy throwing on the pottery wheel while creating bowl forms. We will learn basic wheel techniques, then add interesting textures and surface designs to our pieces. Fired projects will be ready to pick up approximately two weeks after class.

Crushed Can Portraits
Based on the unique art of a contemporary French artist, we will create playful, colorful portraits using a crushed can as a base. We will paint the cans with bright colors and add patterns with brush and dot techniques.

What colors fill our world? Let’s go look while gathering words that help describe what we see! Together, we’ll read Green by Laura Vaccaro Seeger and Red Sings from Treetops by Joyce Sidman. We’ll write color poems and color the poems we write.
